Karen has a strong interest in organisational development and has undertaken work for the South African, Malawian and Namibian governments. She is a Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and a  Graduate and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD). Whilst at Huntingdonshire Primary Care Trust, Karen was responsible as Chief Executive Officer for the only integrated children’s service in the NHS. This was one of 12 pilot Children’s Trusts. She is currently a member of Cambridgeshire Children’s Safeguarding Board.

Chris Born
Currently Chief Executive of North Somerset Primary Care Trust, Chris has worked for the NHS as chief executive for 14 years. This involved heading a mental health NHS trust, including services for children and young people. Chris is currently a founder member of the local Children's Trust arrangements in Bristol. He has also worked for MIND, the mental health voluntary organisation, and for local government as a social worker and social care manager. His main interests are in developing integrated, community-based services, closer to people’s homes and reducing reliance on acute hospitals and out of area placements for patient care.

Sarah Davidson
Sarah is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in a nationwide, specialist children and young people’s service at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust. She is the Deputy Clinical Director on the Professional Clinical Psychology Doctorial Programme at the University of East London and is the Psychosocial Advisor for the British Red Cross. She was previously the Vice Chair of the British Red Cross Board of Trustees.

Hugh McLaughlin
Hugh is currently Director of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Salford.  Before moving into academia, he was an assistant director of a local authority's child and family services.  His current research and publication interests include the meaningful involvement of young service users in evaluating/researching social care provision, corporate parenting and safeguarding children.  Hugh is vice chair of the trustee board for After Adoption and a chair for the local young offending service's reparation panels.  He offers a broad perspective in terms of policy, practice and research to the work of NCB and will help to continue to develop a research informed practice.
