Conferences and events

Conferences play an important part in informing NCB members and the wider children’s sector about developments in policy, good practice, research findings and government consultations. They also provide an opportunity to communicate the work of NCB’s many departments, networks, councils and fora. NCB runs a programme of conferences featuring expert speakers, who are both policy-makers and practitioners, on topical subjects as well as supporting specialist networks.

Connecting the London Pledge to everyday living – practice and evaluation
Theme: Residential Care
The London Pledge is a commitment from Children’s Trusts and their partners to all children and young people in and leaving care, and to care leavers. Developed in partnership with young people, lead members for children’s services and partners from the community and voluntary sector, the Pledge aims to ensure that children and young people in care across London have equal access to a range of key services and support wherever they live, go to school or access employment and training opportunities.
A self evaluation tool will be launched along with practice materials to support the Pledge, and the event will follow a World Café format, with attendees engaging in rotating, small and informal group discussions so as to maximise creative exchange of ideas and information.
Delegates can expect to take away practical ideas for implementation within their boroughs, and membership of an active support network of people across London who will share ideas and help keep each other accountable to the promises set out in the Pledge.
Delegates’ contributions at the event will feed in to a final report on the overall London Pledge project along with evaluations of what else is needed for future development of the Pledge. The event provides an opportunity for the invited delegates to meet and share with others with similar responsibilities in leading on the development of the Pledge and Children in Care Councils in their borough.
