Working together for
well-being:
Accommodating 16 & 17 year old young people who may be homeless
and/or require accommodation
Theme: Supported Housing
This event is the fourth meeting of the Supported Youth Housing and
Health Network. It is an opportunity for delegates to hear direct
from the government about joint statutory guidance issued to local
authorities on 1 April 2010 by the Secretary of State for Children,
Schools and Families (now Department for Education) and the
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. This
provides revised guidance for children's services authorities and
local housing authorities about their duties under Part 3 of the
Children Act 1989 and Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 to secure or
provide accommodation for homeless 16 and 17 year old children,
following the judgment by the House of Lords in the case of R(G) v
London Borough of Southwark (2009).
Delegates will learn about how housing and children’s services can,
and have, been working together to fulfill their respective duties
and enhance young people’s experiences of their services.
This seminar will provide an opportunity for delegates to hear

Connecting the London
Pledge to everyday living – practice and
evaluation
Theme: Residential Care
The London Pledge is a commitment from Children’s Trusts and their
partners to all children and young people in and leaving care, and
to care leavers. Developed in partnership with young people, lead
members for children’s services and partners from the community and
voluntary sector, the Pledge aims to ensure that children and young
people in care across London have equal access to a range of key
services and support wherever they live, go to school or access
employment and training opportunities.
A self evaluation tool will be launched along with practice
materials to support the Pledge, and the event will follow a World
Café format, with attendees engaging in rotating, small and
informal group discussions so as to maximise creative exchange of
ideas and information.
Delegates can expect to take away practical ideas for
implementation within their boroughs, and membership of an active
support network of people across London who will share ideas and
help keep each other accountable to the promises set out in the
Pledge.
Delegates’ contributions at the event will feed in to a final
report on the overall London Pledge project along with evaluations
of what else is needed for future development of the Pledge. The
event provides an opportunity for the invited delegates to meet and
share with others with similar responsibilities in leading on the
development of the Pledge and Children in Care Councils in their
borough.

Our voices, our
health: Young people in public health research
Theme:PEAR
An exciting opportunity to attend a free young people-led
conference that will bring together young people, researchers and
policy-makers to discuss research and public health
priorities.
The conference will show how young people can be involved in public
health research, why this is important and what difference it can
make. PEAR stands for Public health, Education, Awareness and
Research, and is an exciting project supporting young people’s
involvement in public health research.
This innovative conference is being organised by and for young
people, as well as researchers and other adults. We want it to
be friendly and fun, and to provide opportunities for young people
and adults to get together and come up with some exciting new
ideas. For that to happen we need you to be there..
