Participation of disabled children and young people in
decision-making relating to social care

Increasing children's participation in decisions, both about
their own care and about service development, is a key policy
priority. This research set out to explore factors which can
support good practice in participation
of disabled children. It consisted of national survey and
case studies in six local authorities who had involved disabled
children in decision making.

Hear by Right
The National Youth Agency, 2005
Hear by Right is a tried and tested standards framework for
organisations across the statutory and voluntary sectors to assess
and improve practice and policy on the active involvement of
children and young people.

Mapping children and young people's
participation in England

Report on research commissioned by the DfES (now the
DCSF) and carried out by the National Youth Agency and the
British Youth Council. The research was intended to gain a
systematic picture of the levels and ways in which statutory and
voluntary organisations in England involve children and young
people up to 19 in public decision-making.

Represents a unique and diverse group of young people, providing
them with encouragement and activities to voice their
opinions on matters which they find interesting. Young
people are able to get involved locally and internationally,
campaign against decisions, influence the Government and set up
their own local youth council.

ways practitioners, organisations and policy makers can access
and share information about involving children and young people in
decision making.

Unicef UK Youth Voice
Unicef UK Youth Voice is a network of young people aged 11 to
18, who are committed to children's rights and voicing their
opinions on issues that affect children all over the
world. The members of Youth Voice fundraise, campaign, lobby
government and volunteer within communities.

Youth Action Network
Youth Action Network is a National organisation which offers
specialist support to organisations who promote youth led
volunteering.
The Network specialises in training, capacity building,
networking opportunities, awards and funding to voluntary
organisations who support young people to develop their own
volunteering opportunities.
