Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC)

CWDC exists to improve the lives of children, young people, their families and carers by ensuring that all people working with them have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice.  It also helps children and young people's organisations and services to work together so that the child is at the centre of all services.

Funding guide to workforce development

NCVYS, July 2007

One of the biggest barriers for VCS staff and volunteers accessing external training is the availability of funding. This guide provides information on sources of funding to support the development of the  VCS children and young people’s workforce.

The guide is split in to six sections:

Common core of skills and knowledge for the children's workforce

DCSF, 2005

The DCSF worked with a partnership of service user, employer and worker interests to develop this Common Core of Skills and Knowledge. The prospectus sets out required knowledge and skills to practise at a basic level in six areas of expertise:

  • effective communication and engagement
  • child and young person development
  • safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
  • supporting transitions
  • multi-agency working
  • sharing information.
